Louis XIV Style Bolection Molded Marble Mantel

Sku code: Mch1021

Quick Overview

Carved from a lovely variegated Brèche Médicis marble, this Louis XIV style Bolection Molded Mantel has lovely proportions. The generous width of the molding is stylistically characteristic, and it is balanced by the simplicity of the lines. Topped by a rectangular shelf with ogee molding, the gently arched hearth opening is elegantly framed by voluptuously rounded molding that carries down into the center of the block feet. The traverse is framed by ogee molding that continues down to frame the outside of the legs and feet.

Details

Medici Marble, Brèche Médicis (French) or Brecchia Medicea (Italian) has been a highly coveted decorative marble since antiquity. It reached a high point of exposure for its use in some of the most outstanding architecture of the 16th century. The quarries were then owned by Cosimo I de Medici, and outstanding examples of its application are found in the celebrated Duomo, the Pitti Palace, and the Medici Chapels.
