Fireplace Accessories: These intricately cast bronze-front Chenets are replete with mythological symbolism, and are an intriguing balance of the masculine and the feminine. Each tapering standard is surmounted by a heroic bearded figure, who appears crowned and girded for battle. His body forms a caduceus, a staff surrounded by intertwined snakes. Centered on the standards one finds an open grape leaf, and grounding the staff is a magnificent lion’s paw. The upright standards are mounted on ornately bordered bases that form a gentle arch that terminate on spread pad feet. The elaborate décor of the bases include c-scroll molding, scrolling and flat running acanthus leaf moldings. The bases are centered by a crowned and coiffed feminine masque, staring out defiantly from beneath the lion’s paw.
