French Limestone Mantel

Louis XIII Style French Limestone Mantel c. 1650

Carved in a beige limestone, this early French mantel speaks eloquence in hushed tones, and carries the Classic Renaissance Form devoid of superfluous decoration. Topped with a tiered cornice featuring doucine (ogee) molding that projects slightly on either side, the bottom edge of the substantial lintel features bullnose molding. The straight block legs and feet harmonize with the unadorned expanse of the lintel.
