Louis XVI Finely Carved White Marble Mantel c. 1820

A skillfully carved post period Louis XVI white marble mantel detailing instruments of the hunt. A French hunting horn and pan flute are centered among a ribbon entwined floral garland on the lintel front piece. Extending on either side, large laurel branches with berries are rendered in fine detail, as are the large furling acanthus leaves and rosettes topping the moulded legs. The pearling motif, typical of the Louis XVI period, is found both on the legs and lintel. This is the work of a master carver, possibly Parisian. Origin: France, circa 1820.

Measurements: H 43.25 in. x W 48.50 in. x D 16.50 in.
