Details

The French Regency, or Régence period (1715 - 1730) roughly corresponded to the years when Louis XV was still a youth and had not yet ascended to the throne; instead France was governed by a temporary prince regent. The Régence style is characterized by a sensual comfort: padded armchairs and canapes, caning, the cabriole leg, symmetrical “C” and “S” shaped scrolling, the shell and acanthus motif, and exotics such as bat-wings, monkeys, fauns, and animal hoofed furniture feet.
