Antique English Granite Staddle Stone (GE-HQMX)
An 18th-century staddle stone, expertly crafted from granite, sourced from England, and both antique and reclaimed. This historic piece comprises two separate components: a base and a cap, which, when stacked together, form a complete staddle stone. Originally, these stones elevated granaries and haystacks off the ground to allow air circulation, preventing rot. More importantly, the cap protected the stored contents by keeping them out of reach of mice and other vermin.
While some staddle stones still serve their original purpose in England—particularly in the Cotswolds, where most of our antique staddle stones originate—they are now predominantly cherished as decorative garden elements. They are most notably featured in the renowned Highgrove Gardens of The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, adding timeless charm and character to any outdoor space.
